Transition is not a point in time event; it is an experience that begins well before the move is made.
To help students adjust, staff from current and future educational settings work together to ease students through this time.
Effective transition approaches recognise the central role that families and communities play in supporting children’s learning and development. The research evidence highlights that transition experiences are most positive when:
- educators acknowledge children’s strengths and abilities, and what they have learnt and experienced before transitioning to a new setting.
- families are encouraged to share information about the child including their aspirations.
- children are given the opportunity to provide their own views about their learning and what they need to prepare and adapt to their new school or classroom.
At St Joseph’s we support transition from:
- Preschool to Primary School
- Primary to Secondary School
